On January 19th, New York Rangers alumni took to the ice at the Hommocks Rink. The event was held to promote Charitable Giving and Girl Power in the Hockey Community: A Double Score. Local Live reporter, Aurora Fowlkes spoke to the participants.
Due to becoming the new Westchester County Executive, George Latimer’s NY State Senate seat is now open. Local Democrats have endorsed Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer. On Wednesday, January 24th, there were approximately 150 supporters to help open her Mamaroneck campaign office which is located on Ward Avenue, across from the train station. Republican candidates are Westchester Prosecutor, Dan Schorr and attorney Sarmad Khojasteh. A primary to decide the Republican candidate is likely. In the meantime, Governor Andrew Cuomo has not set a date for a special election.
The Mamaroneck Youth Association hosted a charity hockey game at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink on Friday, January 19th. Twenty-six local coaches and members of the Mamaroneck Youth Association skated with NY Rangers alumni Glenn Anderson, Adam Graves, Ron Duguay and Colton Orr. All proceeds from the event will benefit Mamaroneck Youth Hockey. Association.
A new film series at Mamaroneck High School focuses on the experiences and struggles of hispanic immigrants. The film series is being moderated by local film scholar, Dr. Michael DiGennaro. Titles in the series include, Sin Nombre, Quniceanera and A Better Life. The films will be screened on January 25th and February 13th.
